Inspiration

Katie is a landscape and portrait artist from Co. Armagh, originally from Wrexham, North Wales, she was inspired early on by her father, also a keen artist and renowned photographer. Katie was very seldom without a pencil in her hand during her free time as a child, and the passion continued when she went on to study Art & Design at College. Although she gained further experience there, Katie admits she mostly creates from her own raw talent and tends not to conform to technique. ’What I create comes straight from the heart onto the canvas, I just pick a spot and start ...the art then tends to emerge before me, and it gives me joy each time I see the image coming into life’. Katie tends to paint from photographs as she likes to home in on the detail but has plenty of inspiration from the world around her, she loves people and aims to truly capture the character’s depth in her portraiture. Katie’s biggest inspiration, however, has to be from her holidays in Donegal, the West of Ireland. From a child and until now, Katie calls it her second home, she would love to retire there some day and although her day-to-day job is completely removed from her art, she constantly dreams of the ocean, the wildness and the freedom she feels when she visits. Katie hopes, through her seascapes, in particular, that she can transport not only herself but others to this beautiful part of the world.

A Creative Space

"I have always loved drawing and painting, since childhood, however I had always dreamt of having my own studio, a quiet space where I can lose myself in my art ...thanks to my husband and a very determined daughter, our back storage room was transformed a few years ago.. a window put in (essential for oil painting) and some lighting and storage. I am forever grateful."

On the Easel

A glimpse into the studio as a painting takes shape — brushes, palette knife, and the quiet focus that comes with oil on canvas. This is where the work happens.
